Hello friends from around the world. Good news!

We have a site secured for the mind-body health center and intentional community I have been dreaming. Photos and a full description of the operation coming to the website soon. For now, more information is on our facebook group at:
www.facebook.com/s.php
and Tribe group: tribes.tribe.net/projectnuevomundo

Project Nuevo Mundo is a network of individuals committed to redirecting the development of our planet and the life it sustains through the creation of consciousness-transforming, healing projects and centers in communities both foreign and domestic.

This reflects momentum gathering around the world towards a new consensus that emphasizes a more balanced existence with the rest of the natural world based on small-scale, cooperatively organized and relatively self-sufficient human settlements.

Join me if you are interested in a future in development (economic, social, spiritual), fair trade, microcredit, community-building, health and clean water access, media relations and organization, refugee work, education, environmental advocacy and spreading alternative energies. Use this space to discuss possibilities, ideas, and the projects that currently engage us.

We support the philosophy of the Solidarity Economy, creating opportunities for work-exchange and reducing the neccessity for monetary transactions. Below you will find many ways to travel the world, learn, and volunteer with little to no finances.

Here is a little information about the site we have built in Guatemala and now and need your help to start the project and community! (calling all WWOOF work-exchange volunteers, vegan gourmet kitchen apprentices, gardeners, landscapers, mural-painters, massage therapists, yoga instructors, therapists and mind-body healers...). We can make this happen together!

-Beautiful lakeside land going up about two-hundred meters
-Two minutes by boat from beautiful Santiago Atitlan, the largest town on the lake (but not accessible except by boat, which we have one)
-Beautiful hiking paths on our private land as well as public trails
-Solar powered jacuzees, and unlimited supply of solar-heated water
-Sauna sweatlodge
-1000 watt sound-system :)
-Fully producing organic garden (all vegan) with retail outlet store (Salud para Vida) in San Pedro Atitlan and restaurant on-site. Sprouting, raw food, green juicing, etc. this is happening already.
-Plenty of camping space (we hope to build a hostel soon to accomodate backpackers)
-Housing for rent (although this is luxury, to generate income)
-WWOOF positions and work-exchange opportunities opening up in January (we will need a kitchen position, a maintenance and cleaning position, and a gardening position to start. We will also be constructing ecological houses for work-exchange people
-Opportunities to work for one year (including building a small habitation from local materials) in exchange for legal ownership of the habitation and a small plot of land for personal garden
-We are specifically looking for yoga instructors, massage therapists, landscape designers, green builders and permaculture-organic agriculture enthusiasts. We would like to beautify the space with flowers, murals, stained-glass designs. Let´s get creative! When we develop the center we will need a variety of mind-body healers.
-Future plans: 1-2 week workshops on organic farming, vegan cooking, sailing, etc. We plan on hosting conferences, parties, weddings, Vipassana meditation retreats, camping trips for disadvantaged children from Guatemala City to get in touch with nature and rediscover their roots. We are very open to ideas and want to experiment. Get it?

We will be posting up a complete picture of the operations with photographs on our coming website, www.projectnuevomundo.org , in the next couple of weeks. We are also looking for people to pool money together to purchase more land and build a meditation center and more housing. Will be keeping news of the project up to date, please spread the word to interested friends and invite them to the group.

Email contact: projectnuevomundo@gmail.com

There is no farm on the property right now so they aren't sure where they can list this opportunity for people that may want to work-trade for them. I kind of remember some other sites out there that are more geared toward these kinds of opportunities.
We are located in the Mexican highlands, near rural pueblos and with a view of Lake Pátzcuaro. We are developing a rural retreat center, ecological campground, and intentional community. We live without outside power or water - we generate power from our solar panels and catch water from the rain. Volunteers work on a variety of tasks including vegetarian cooking, ecological building, cleaning, activity development, trail work and gardening. Volunteers work five days a week for 5.5 hours per day. There are also opportunities for language classes and exchange, developing specific skills, and working with people from the local community. Smoking and drugs are not allowed, alcohol is acceptable outside of working hours. Please read our website for more information.
There is a small weekly charge which covers costs of food, accommodation, and many activities. Exceptions can be made for long-term volunteers, though every volunteer pays for their first two weeks.

We are specifically looking for longer term residents to do massage, yoga instruction, plant propagation, and kitchen management.

Hi all, I'm a new WWOOFer and interested in finding a great farm in the Midwest to work at this summer for a few weeks. I am looking for a farm specifically in the following states: Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois and Iowa (I'm open to other exceptional farms in that general area). If anyone has any specific farm recommendations I'd appreciate it. Ideally I'd love to work with animals, plants, cheese, home-brewing (wine or beer) and machinery. But the most important thing to ensure a good experience is the people! I'd love to be a part of mid-sized farm where I could get to know everyone well, but it wasn't just me and the owner, for example. That's it!

Thanks in advance,

I emailed the wwoof organizer to see if there is a chat list on the site for people to exchange experiences but she wrote back and didn't seem to keen on the idea. I kind of got the 'customer is always right' vibe from the message. It's a bit frustrating for me as one woman I wwoofed for was just going to leave my passport, back card and all of my belongings out on the street in France when I was away on my day off because I didn't want to work 50 hours a week babysitting in a tiny apartment in a city (she told me I would be helping her on her farmhouse)! WTF? I wish there was a place (on the site) where we could tell about the wonderful places we've worked as well. I guess this is the best we have for now but it doesn't seem like people check this tribe much? Any thoughts?

I am listed as Thunder Hill Farm but am changing that to Oplopanax which is the latin name for Devil's Club plant, one of my favorite healing plants. I am still looking for participants this year. It is very much self-motivated as I have a day job but there are great camp-sites, beautiful views and a remote, quiet setting. I'm especially encouraging those who would like to experiment with creating shelters with resources from the property; sweatlodge, treehouse, lean-to, etc. Welcome!

Its multiple purposes include raising awareness of the Eco-ark being built in the Puna Rain Forest, encouraging others to start similar projects in their own area, sharing ideas and methodologies for accomplishing these goals, spreading ideas concerning sustainable, Eco-friendly technologies and off grid community living. Spreading knowledge of organic permaculture techniques, to encourage the building of community gardens and the growing of food in publicly accessible places (Green Ribbon Project). And helping each other to restoring this planet to its divinely intended Edenic state before it is too late.

This group will also act as a central meeting place for individuals wishing to join in the continued building of the ark on Hawaii Island next summer.

How can you share your WWOOF experiences and support the projects you visited after you left?

I'm in the middle of setting up a website for sustainable communities and projects - for you and who else would like to become part of this. At the moment the site is a simple blog with some first project profiles. The vision is to create a web-based platform for project developers and interested people from different places around the world to exchange ideas, concepts and to present individual projects to the public. This is a long-term project and luckily I’m getting support on this from all different parts of the world.

We are now trying to get the resources together and we are therefore looking for people that would like to present specific projects with pictures and small profile articles.

Would you be interested?

I want to increase my knowledge and skills in regards to living sustainability by visiting farms that are oriented towards self-sufficiency, green building, and intentional communities, rather than those oriented towards commercial production. If anyone else out there has a similar interest please let me know so we can compare notes and maybe travel together.

Cachaça Gabriela is my name. Explaining: cachaça is the same of spirit, schnaps, eau de vie. That's a brazilian name for the spirit made from the sugar cane juice. Typical from Brazil.

But, I'm better than the cachaças I know you already know: I'm organic and artisan made.
That means that we follow the principles to being totally integrated with the environment. Plants are grown without any kind of chemical products giving the sugar cane full organic status. And the way I am produced is really similar to an art: we have to have patience and wait for my right time to drink: at least one year I rest at brazilian's wood barrels: jequitibá-rosa, amburana, bálsamo, amendoim.
I am Zen. I have a small 3 acre place out in the rain forest on Hawaii. I am interested in making a botanical garden/ nature preserve/ food producing park and joining with my neighbors new and old in forming a loose and independent community out there. There are a few other families out there with similar community goals and I am offering my place as a stepping stone for others to live and hopefully purchase other lots in the area in order to grow our community without having to rule and control anyone (Freedom rules)

I'm putting a small group together that want to give Hawaii a try and help plant trees and make trails and garden areas. It only requires one short day a week to cover camp space and with even a lousy job (The biggest town on the Island, Hilo, is only fifteen miles away) you can save enough to buy your own 3 acre lot in the neighborhood. Water falls from the sky out here (180"/yr) and when the changes come we have the resources to survive.

On the night of Friday, October 6, 2006, a community of friends gathered
in Iao Valley, Maui, as a benefit for the Hawaii Nature Center. Despite
very limited planning time, the intense energy of 'Iao Valley, and our
fears and misgivings about our ability to run a safe and positive event,
the event was a success: a wonderful evening with gorgeous weather and
good people. I want to thank all of the people that helped to make the
night possible. I specifically wish to thank the staff and management team
of the Hawaii Nature Center, who were able to pull together and assist,
even with lingering doubts about the wisdom and appropriateness of the
benefit. Thank you. Your help is not unrecognized or unappreciated. I
also wish to thank my new friend Charles Ka'upu, who, with less than a
day's notice, drove hours from his home in Napili in order to bring us
together, enchant us with ‘oli, teach us about 'Iao, prepare and serve us
'awa, and allow us to feel safe, welcome, and embraced by the Valley.
Thank you for answering the call, Charles. To those others who put forth
their time, effort, and resources to the event, I wish to thank you also.

What made the night especially poignant was the fact that this gathering
coincided with a convergence of positive energy on Maui, including visits
by such spiritual giants as Shiva Rea, Krishna Das, and Ram Dass, with
whom I had the incredible honor of BE-ing Sunday night in Ha’iku.

I believe that on that full moon night, we planted a seed in 'Iao Valley.
Now that the hard work of preparing has been done, we will be able to
harvest again and again. That’s how nature works.

PLEASE take the time to read and ponder this email and the attached
documents. I believe stongly that something significant and important is
happening.

If you feel inspired to do so, please join in our community and contribute
in whatever way you are willing and able. If you are not able to
contribute directly, perhaps there is someone in your extended community
who may be called to contribute to our cause.
Please feel free to forward this email to anyone you feel may be touched
by it.

Any contributions would be much appreciated. Monetary donations of any
amount, or other forms of contribution, may be sent to the Hawaii Nature
Center at:

Hawaii Nature Center
875 'Iao Valley Road
Wailuku, HI 96793

Mahalo nui loa.

Aloha. Love. Om Shanti. Peace. Peace. Peace.

Namaste.

Wade

P.S. If you reply to this email, I would be happy to send a list of
things that I felt 'Iao was calling for specifically. We would be
overwhelmed with gratitude should you choose to take upon yourself the
kuleana of providing us with these gifts.
Expression of Gratitude

My name is Wade Holmes. I am the Program Manager here at the Hawaii Nature Center ‘Iao Valley. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for being here on this very special night. I have been involved with the Nature Center for about 5 years and know first-hand what a terrific organization it is. I want you to all know that the Hawai’i Nature Center is a community resource that invites you all to participate. The Hawai’i Nature Center is a private 501c(3) non-profit organization whose purpose it is to foster awareness, appreciation and understanding of Hawai’i and to encourage wise stewardship of the islands in the future. Please take the time tonight to look around, find out about who we are, how we are trying to make the world a better place, and how you can get involved. Tour the museum, make a donation, take the time to take our “Extreme Makeover: Lodge Edition” tour—showings every hour in the conference room! Talk to the community you see around you. Discover how you can become a part of it. We have sign up sheets that explain projects we are working on and towards. There is much work to be done.

In keeping with the cosmological theme for the evening, I’d like to tell a short story. Now, I don’t normally read or invest too much in my horoscopes. How curious, then, that I would read and be prompted to cut out and post on my fridge my horoscope that preceded the most magical lunar cycle of my entire life, during which time I visited such magical places as Mt. Shasta, the Ancient Redwood Forests of Northern California, Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, and Esalen Institute in Big Sur.

The following was my horoscope:
Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)
You can’t spin straw into gold—yet. But you are capable of performing similar wealth-attracting miracles—when you want to. Your problem isn’t lack of ability; it’s discipline over your own mind. You don’t lack ambition, really; Pisces are dreamers first and foremost. It’s just sometimes difficult getting yourself to do the things that will make your dreams reality. I think you question, often, whether you truly want your dreams to come true. Once you stop doing that, they probably will.

I want to be very clear about this. Make no mistake about it—what you are all witnessing is a miracle. Less than a year ago today I was in a deep depression, curled up in a fetal position in a smelly sleeping bag in a tiny room that I had rented in a stranger’s home, on antipsychotic medication, contemplating suicide, believing I had nothing to my name and nothing going for me in the future. I believed I had blown my entire potential and that my life would never be good again. I was full of hatred and anger at myself, and therefore, at theWorld, as they are ONE and the same.

Do you know what it was that saved me? Not the antidepressants, not the money that I had to borrow from my wonderful Mother. My community saved me. It was a miracle. Today I am witnessing a community saving the Nature Center. A hero of mine, Terence McKenna, once said that all it takes is to witness one miracle to make a person a lifelong optimist. I would like to testify to the truth of that statement. I want to take this chance to personally express my gratitude to those that facilitated the miracle of my life.

Thank you, David. Thank you, Robert. Thank you, Mahlon. Thank you, JD. Thank you, Markus. Thank you, all my Big Island, O’ahu, and Maui friends. To those that were not able to physically be here tonight—Thank you Jamie. Thank you Jennie. Thank you, Sirkka. Thank you, Stephanie. Thank you, Joe. Thank you, Craig. Thank you, Bruce. Thank you, Darren. Thank you, my wonderful new Northern California Friends. Thank you, Peter. Thank you, Will. Gracias, Don Diego. Meow,Bitsy. Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Dad. Thank you, Family. Perhaps most important: Thank you, Mother Earth. Mahalo, Hawai’i. Mahalo, Maui. Mahalo, ‘Iao.

Because of the miracle that I have experienced, I believe in the possibility of positive future and have dedicated my life to achieve that. I hope you will all join me in the effort. Let’s Create the World We Want to See. I’m telling you: Anything IS possible. MAHALO.
I'm open to any location as long as there are no alterior motives, good people around, and the ability to get around, and sustain myself. I love the unknown and am not sure where I am being guided but I am definitely being driven somewhere other than where I am at this moment.

My Children are chill, clean, respectful, and in tune. My son is nine, my daughter is 7 weeks.

My Son and I have travelled throughout Southern Africa, and lived from our own place in Cape Town... to backpackers... to communal farms in the last three years. Including Vipassana & Permaculture... Not to mention for over a year of that I sold my creations at festivals... He has met all walks of life and as long as you are a good person with good intent I doubt he will be shocked by you or anything that you do. On top of that he is in school all day five days a week... He listens well and learns quickly.

My Daughter so far is a very peacfeul curious little wonder who likes to rest and listen to Reggae... Her trumpet only sounds when hungry or in need of a diaper change... which I attend to very quickly. If I want her to go to sleep I must turn the music up... I guess I channeled the perfect child after all.

We are originally from New Orleans but currently hail from San Francisco... Been travelling in Africa for three years.

I'm a mature individual (30 Pisces/Fire Dragon/Yellow Magnetic Sun) that thrives on positive communication... Peace... Compassion. I have little space for drama as I find it terribly unecessary when you have grown to a degree where you love yourself and are at peace with your direction in life. Group meditation, & or yoga are a plus... I am not materialistic, I live simply and I like my free time... I eat organic, and vegan though you can do whatever you like I am not judgemental or self righteous.

If you are one to tell people what they should be doing with there lives I have already done it... Had the convertible, the suit, the plastic, and the loft. Owned the Cafe... Organized the Events... Performed on the Stage...I have done it. So despite what life you think I should have you must be willing to accept the life I want for myself...

People say.. a woman with two kids she should have her own place and be doing whatever to provide that... So I trade my time with my children to provide what is acceptable by a society at the cost of letting other people raise them all for what? More than we need... because it is what: it is acceptable to mainstream society. No thanks I would like to find a nice room no bigger than our hut in Africa was... in a cool area with some cool people... and be as available for them as possible have the time to do my art healing and creations... and be able to take the little one to work with me. Thats the choice I have made and I think that is no reason to judge...

I am an artist on the path wanting to give as much time as possible to my children & trying to learn as much as I can so that the next time I embark on the path I have gotten a few things out of the way.. I want to live by my passions and if it means I have less oh well. As I told the tribe in Africa... When I had everything I had nothing and now that I have nothing I have everything... No matter what I will always take care of myself and my responsibilities... I plan to add nutrition and healing to the Vast array of my capabilities...
Jewelry
Clothing
Holistic Cosmetics
Paintings
Photography
Graphic Design
Music
Vocals
Spoken Word
Performance
Tarot
I-Ching
Oracle
Crystals
I simply need to put down roots so that I can manifest my new existence back here in America... Does one have a room in a location where my skills could be of service & or appreciated?

If the location is in SF I can provide 1st months rent, Deposit... and can gaurantee my bills and food every month... If the location is elsewhere I would obviously be relocating so I would likely need to postpone the deposit until I get settled and working which would be very quickly mind you. I do have a job that I can take anywhere. Though I will need an internet connection for that, unless I can do work exchange or teaching children... and I am also quite willing to do any kind of work needed towards sustainability.

Sound off to the Universe... Is there anybody out there.
Jesaka, Azrad & Zion

When my mother passed away earlier this year one of the things that I inherited was her business. My mother ran a resale shop/farmers market booth. The items available were a pretty eclectic mix of items. When I came home to help her out we started to work on being slightly more specific in the customers we catered to. The direction we took was based on both her interests and my own. Specifically we started selling more items along the lines of New Age and Indian/Southwest style items. After my mother passed away I closed her store while I got her affairs and my life in order. Recently I’ve been getting my mind around the idea of re-opening her store with some changes. Instead of being strictly a farmers market type of operation I’ve been looking at something more in line with a retail style business.

Having said that I’d like to ask for some help and ideas. I’m looking at keeping in the direction of New Age items and possibly Southwest as well. I’m also considering adding Gothic items as well and have some ideas in this direction already.

My questions are this. If you were Boss for a day and could choose absolutely anything you wanted to carry what items would you include in such a store? What things have you looked for in other stores and not been able to find and wish you could? What things do you hate or find to be poor quality? Any ideas will be carefully considered and greatly appreciated. Please feel free to give any suggestions and don’t feel limited in items you might consider right now I’m looking for ideas and I’ll narrow the field later.

Obviously I won’t be including everything but I’d sure like to be able to offer people quality items and a good selection. The area that I am in currently does not have anything close by and the few shops that you can drive to have some items but really have very little. Having talked to many people in this area there seems to be a good customer base for such a store if it existed and based on the way sales picked up when we started to carry such things before the store closed it would seem to bear this out.

Again please let me say thank you for any help or ideas you can give. If you don’t feel comfortable posting here please feel free to message me privately.

Thanks so much,

I orginally found out about this through the Back Door Guide to Short Term Job Adventures. I would love to hear from someone who did this.
This is an interesting alternative to work exchange combining yoga lifestyle with organci farming. Its affilated with Ananda Yoga.
Here is a link and some info
http://www.localharvest.org/farms/M4537
Lake Hughes, CA
Our farm is about an hour and ten minutes from Los Angeles at an altitude of 3200 feet inside the Angeles National Forest. Our 2,500 peach trees bloom in March and we harvest them in September and October. Around 25,000 globe and Japanese eggplant are transplanted in the spring and harvested throughout the summer and fall. Other crops we grow are melons, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, okra, zucchini, bitter gourd, and string beans. We also have cherry trees and grapes as well as some recently planted Asian pears and pluots.
Additional Specifics: We provide free room and board, and if our produce is selling well, there are sometimes bonuses at the end of the year, but we can’t make any promises. People work to their capacity, the hours are flexible, and conditions range from intense to laid back, depending on the time of year or day of the week. Some of the daily farming jobs might consist of transplanting, spreading compost, foliar spraying, weeding, mulching, picking, packing, transportation, using the tractor, rototilling, pruning, dormant spraying, irrigation, anti-frost prevention, gopher and rabbit control, fertigation, construction, t-tape repair, cover crops, etc.
We follow a vegetarian diet at the farm and encourage people to practice meditation and yoga. Instruction available. There is a nice 3 bedroom, 2-bath house on the premises, as well as a 3 bedroom, 1 bath trailer. Because of our spiritual lifestyle, there is a certain joy in the farming, which is different from other farms, which often see things in terms of business, labor, bottom line, etc. We sincerely hope if you decide to intern at our farm that you will have that community spirit that is so vital to a loving flow.
Please let me know any specific questions you might have about our farm or organization. We are a non-profit mediation and social service organization with many different farms around the world. Our farm is a member of CCOF (CA Certified Organic Farmers) and has been in operation since 1993. All work is done by volunteers. XXXXXXXX, yoga monks from Taiwan and Columbia, are in charge of the farming operations, while XXXXXXXX lives in Los Angeles and takes care of sales and marketing. If this brief description sounds interesting to you, kindly send your resume including things like education, work experience, hobbies, experience in meditation, etc. I look forward hearing from you.

There has been a few I would not want to work around again. Simply, their work ethic, was one of such beligerant, slave driving, self-abusing type. Treated like a Peon. Self abuse exists in many nasty forms.
The good experiences: the gentle, kind, familial, open, inclusive, wholistic, nuturing. Yep there are some good folk out there.

As I understand you pay a small fee for the WOOF country you want to volunteer at and you can contact the farms directly each with their own guidlines. I personally have no connections to WWOOF and started this tribe to get the word out on working on an organic farms because I believe in it.
